What is the difference between uPVC doors and composite doors?
When it comes to upgrading your home’s doors, you’ve likely come across both uPVC and composite options. While both are popular choices, the right choice for you will depend on what you’re looking for. We’ve broken down the key benefits of each so you can decide which suits your needs best.
Each type of door offers advantages depending on your priorities. If you’re after a cost-effective, easy-to-maintain solution, uPVC doors are a great option. On the other hand, if you’re looking for enhanced security, better insulation and a more durable door, composite doors might be the way to go. Either way, both options offer fantastic benefits to suit your home.

Energy efficiency features
Door Energy Ratings (DSERs)
The Door Set Energy Ratings (DSERs) system, certified by the British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC), measures the overall energy performance of a door, much like the rainbow rating system you see on your household appliances.
The rating scale ranges from A++ to G, with ratings closer to A++ highlighting the door's superior insulation and energy efficiency.
U-values
A U-value measures how effectively a door prevents heat from escaping. The lower the U-value, the better the door retains heat, helping to keep your home warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
According to the Scottish Government's building standards handbook, the minimum U-value standard for doors must be 1.8 W/m²K or lower.
At Cairnview Windows and Doors, we only work with high-quality products and suppliers that meet high energy efficiency standards. This ensures our customers get the best value for money, while reducing their energy bills.
